Fall 2011 Trend Report: Color Pop!

Snap, Crackle, Pop!  Bright, saturated jewel tones have slammed into the stores for Autumn 2011.  Don’t be shy my Everyday Glamour Chicks, (E.G.C.’s)!  You can work it a little…or a lot.  It is up to you.  Just work it.

Snap:  The easiest and most cost-effective way to add color to the E.G.C. wardrobe is by adding one colorful accessory.  A bright bag, a pair of shoes, or a belt makes an otherwise neutral outfit snap to attention.  When you counter the bright tone with a classic shape and buy the best quality you can muster, you will wear that sucker into the ground and weep when it finally falls apart in tatters many years later.  Boo hoo.

Crackle:  Feeling saucy?  Bring the heat with two different accessories in complementary colors.  A mustard handbag worn with wine shoes will put some pep in your step…meow!  Caveat:  This look does not work well with an otherwise entirely black outfit.  Add some white.  Or wear a quiet, small scale pattern like a subdued tweed, demure navy pinstripe, or muted floral.

Pop!:  Oooo, this is a scorcher!!  Go all out in a brightly colored frock.  No black stockings this year—the look is a nude leg.  Is the frock in a solid color?  If so, add in light neutral accessories, like nude heels and a leopard print bag.  (Leopard is considered neutral in E.G.C. land, don’t cha know?)  Alternatively, pair a bright solid frock with printed shoes and/or bag.  Make sure the print in the shoes and/or bag contain complimentary colors to the frock.  Or….if the frock you don is a brightly colored printed number....then handbags and shoes can pick up the secondary or tertiary color found in the print, (which is fancy talk for “just don’t match the dominant color found in the print”).

Got it?  Good!  Have some Rice Krispies.

I just bought a red/orange dress, similar to this only body hugging and below the knee. So out of character for me but holy POP when I wear it. I feel like a vixen and hubby calls me Jessica Rabbit (I hate it when he says that ;) ). I need a bright purse though. I love the color of your SNAP. Eyes peeled for that one!

Cupcake, when a man calls you Jessica Rabbit, you are definitely an E.G.C.!!!!
Do you wear the Jessica dress with nude heels?
I like that bright handbag because I think it has a more classic feel to it, (you can justify spending on quality when you know that you will wear it for years), while still being fresh and young looking.
I like the wine shoes for the same reason.
