Emmanuelle Alt's True Style

This marks a groundbreaking day for Everyday Glamour--the first official guest post for I Want To Be An Alt.  So you must take me very seriously.  Because fashion is a very serious topic.

Today we will be breaking down the style of Ms. Emmanuelle Alt, the newly appointed Vogue Paris, Editor-in-Chief.  You may wonder, "Who is this lanky, cool, edgy chick, all shoulders and legs?  What is behind that Mona Lisa smile of hers?"  Ms. Alt has been praised and analyzed and generally exhalted across the blogosphere for her insoucent rock-chick style.  She's known for wearing skinny jeans, high heels, and leather.  In that order.

So you want to get style like that?  You want the formula?  Then be an original and carry yourself with extreme confidence.  Maybe you were hoping I'd just tell you to copy whatever she wears.  That is an option, but you will never get the essence of her style thay way.  You can't.  Unless your name is Emmanuelle Alt and you happen to be the reigning Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Paris, then you can't actually have her style.  You will merely be a cheap imitation.  OOOOO, snap!!!

To be an original.  It all sounds so difficult.  But it's not that hard, I promise.  Just wear what suits you.  That's what  Everyday Glamour Chicks, (E.G.C.'s) do--they highlight their strengths.  And that is exactly what Emmanuelle Alt is doing when she's getting dressed in the morning.  She's not crying because she can't fill out a pencil skirt like Kim Kardashian.  You don't see her eating sausage in a vain effort to maximize her gluteus.  No, she wisely shugs her shoulders and puts on a pair of skinny jeans.  She knows better.  She knows that just because she doesn't have more cakes than Duncan Hines, that doesn't make her any less alluring than Miss Kim.

Emmanuelle Alt stays true to herself.  She will never run to the plastic surgeon's office so that she can finally wear a plunging neckline, lean over some nice hot bouillabaisse, bring it up to her lips and then blow.  She understands that her money is much better spent on very expensive clothes.  Like black Helmut Lang trousers.  And black A.P.C. t-shirts.  (I'm pretty sure that the A.P.C. t-shirts don't come in a three-pack.)

Emmanuelle Alt highlights her strengths.  Which happen to be very, very long legs.  Oh, and broad shoulders.  But mainly long legs.  Impossible legs.  Legs of dreams.  And she's very "in your face" about it all too.  She wears sky-high heels to add insult to injury.  As if to taunt you, "Ha, ha, see these legs?  Huh? Huh?  See 'em?  Yeah, I'm gonna add some high heels!"  But no, Emmanuelle would never taunt.  She just flashes her Mona Lisa smile.

You may be wondering what your best feature is.  Do you have legs like Emmanuelle?  An ass like Kim?  What are your assets?  What makes you stand out?  If you are wondering, then I'll give you a little tip:  it's pr0bably something that you hate.  Like a big nose, for example.  If you have a schnoz, then it needs to be highlighted.  It's what makes you unique!  You need to put that schnoz on a pedistal and make it a shining beacon of personal style.  So pull back your hair and pencil in your brows.  Or get a geometric haircut.

Whatever your strength is, display it proudly.  And don't forget to add the best accessory, the piece de resistance.  A Mona Lisa smile.

Kate, this may be the first time I disagree with your sage advice! I don't have cakes or legs but there is no way in hell I am emphasizing this schnoz!

; )

LOVE IT, KATE! Thank you for gracing IWTBAA with your talent.

Be yourself...everyone else is already taken! Love it Kate!! Kellina is lucky to borrow your talents.
Look at Streisand...people told her get a nose job, but that's her signature isn't it? And damn right she pulls her hair back and does side profile shots...check out this schnoz people (by the way that word makes me laugh). And conversely, Jennifer Gray...her nose job killed her career. So you are 100% correct, what you think is your worst attribute is probaby what makes you interesting...embrace it! What a perfect way to start the weekend.

Ah you did this so well. I'm still so hurt that Carine has left that I could have dismissed her .. you did capture her so well here that I will restrain myself from making too many judgments here. Although dismissing the thought of sexuality in the magazine makes me groan. French Vogue is sex or what is it? Sadly we shall see. Helmut Newton would not approve nor do I.

Fabulous images of Emmanuelle - one cannot help but stare. Clearly she's as equally confident as Carine but it comes across differently. There's a gentleness about her that we never saw in Carine, who was more playful than sweet.

Kate, you're the light that every woman needs. None of this feeling down about what you look like, just pure positive attitude and appreciation for being unique. You're empowering some many women, I hope you know how important your writing is.

Madeleine thank you as always for the kind compliment! Well, I'm interested in what direction Ms. Alt will take the magazine. Who knows? Maybe French Vogue will continue to be sexy? (A girl can dream. ;) )

Milla, you are incitefull as always!

And thank you and a million thank you's for encouraging me! It really means the world to me that you like my message.

You kill me. You just do. You don’t see her eating sausage in a vain effort to maximize her gluteus. OH BOY!!!

I have no idea what my main feature is. Maybe my hair? I wish I had more of a clue about myself, I can help others, but me...oh g-d no!

I love your writing, lady. You need a book.

Hahaha, you're SO right and you're so freaking witty. I love it!
I guess my main feature is my HUGE forehead.. lol.

February 26, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterFleurette

Oh, thank you Fleurette! Well, you emphasize that forehead! Tyra Banks has a big forehead and that never stopped her!!

Please stop by Everyday Glamour more often! :)

February 26, 2011 | Unregistered Commentereverydayglamour

Haha, I know! But I'm not blessed with beautiful facial features like Tyra.. I guess I have to emphasize everything I don't like.. but hey, Emmanuelle is lucky who has such long and skinny legs, which is no wonder why she always looks great.

Yes, I will surely stop by Everyday Glamour more frequently. I just discovered your blog via the Emmanuelle Alt blog. Both blogs are such gems!

February 26, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterFleurette

Oh, Ms. Fleurette, thank you very much! YOUR blog is a gem. LOVE your philosophy. And such pretty clothes!

February 26, 2011 | Unregistered Commentereverydayglamour

I love this piece. For years I thought I needed to be curvier to wear and look good in the dresses I loved, but then realised that if I worked my best bits, like my legs, I really didn't need to worry about my non existent cleavage. Hurrah for your writing!

Love this, I have no butt and no thighs and even when I was 45lbs heavier all I had was a belly and boobs, this will always be my go to look, even when I'm 65 - I'm an apple shape and that's that.

March 15, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterTabitha

Tabitha, YES! You tell it like it is! I'm sure you rock those skinny jeans!!

Thank you so much for visiting Everyday Glamour! I hope to see more of you!
